Google Acquires Online Image-Editing Tool Picnik

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Picnik will remain up and operational, at least for the foreseeable future.

Google already has Picasa Web. Did they buy to beef up that product, or to keep others from acquiring? I wonder about the strategy. Sometimes it seems Google just can’t stand any eyeballs on the web not looking at one of their own.

MySpace Launching Their Own Web Mail. Huh?

This seems utterly ridiculous to me. MySpace is going to launch their own web-based email system. Apparently, using the social network’s own messaging system is just not enough:

…this will give them their own addresses “@myspace.com

MySpace has long had “vanity” spaces. Perhaps they believe their members love the MySpace brand so much they’ll switch email addresses for it now. I have a hard time believing that.

MySpace is losing ground to Facebook, is this just a futile bid to slow down defections?
